Hi fellow members,
We had an excellent demonstration Monday night as Kevin Seigworth explained how to keep your lathe tools sharp. Whether you are a novice or an expert, nothing beats a sharp tool to make turning easier and more enjoyable. His simple yet detailed explanations were extremely helpful to all. Thanks Kevin!
Next month we have a Zoom demonstration by Harvey Meyer. Harvey did a demo for the club back in January and we have decided to invite him back because of his expert video capabilities and turning expertise. Remember, due to the Labor Day weekend our meeting will be on September 13. Although it will be a Zoom meeting, members are invited to attend in-person at Woodcraft and watch it on the large monitors. Members can also watch it from the comfort of their homes.
MAWT has been helping the Empty Bowls-Milwaukee project for several years and this year we are asking for member to bring in bowls before September 15th. Bowls are normal soup-bowl sized (5-7” dia. x 2-3” ht.). They can be sealed with any food-safe finish. If your bowl creation is more artistic than utilitarian, they should be noted and Empty Bowls will place them in a special “non-soup” raffle. Bowls can be brought in at the September meeting or just stop by Woodcraft and place them in the boxes at the bottom of the steps to the meeting area.
Finally, we are pleased that the club is able to get together at the Woodcraft meeting area. But the Board will be paying close attention to the latest covid surge and for everyone’s protection, we will consider new recommendations if they will be required. We want to make sure that all members stay safe and healthy.
Keep turning,
Ron Zdroik
President, Milwaukee Area Woodturners
