For the second month in a row, we had poor weather for the club night. Again, the turnout was surprisingly good. Several guests and new members attended along with the faithful.
Carl Brust gave a financial report – the account is quite healthy at the moment but that reflects all the pre-payments made for the Michael Gibson event.
The Michael Gibson event was promoted. It is not too late to sign up for the Saturday event! You can pay through the Web Page or at the door. If you have not signed up but plan to attend please send an email to Dave Drickhamer.
For Turn For Troops, Dave Drickhamer reported that he has passed out about 460 pen kits and that 230 have been turned in.
Tom Hipsak turned a wooden flower and did a very nice job of showing us how he makes a one-piece flower with the stem going through the chuck into the spindle of the lathe. He also showed how he cuts the petals of the flower with a coping saw (fret saw) and several other spindle (end grain) turning techniques as well. Great job, Tom!!
After the break, Ron Zdroik demonstrated dying with with the use of aniline dyes and an air brush. He finished his demo by showing us a marbling technique using a product that he purchases from Blick, Marabu. (The link is to the same product available through Amazon.) Thank you, Ron!!
After the demo, the items on the show-and-tell table were reviewed We ended the evening with the wood raffle.
Here are some of the pictures from the meeting – see all the photos on the Gallery page.
