Current AAW Topics

As a reminder, all individuals with AAW memberships that are current as of December 31, 2018, will be eligible for the annual drawing of a Powermatic 3520C lathe. That winner will also have the honor of naming a chapter to receive either a JET 1642 or five JET mini-lathes.The drawing will be held during the first week of January 2019.

The Milwaukee Area Woodturners (MAWt) is a chapter of the AAW (American Association of Woodturners). The existence of our chapter under that national umbrella holds several advantages for us. In addition, there are a number of advantages for those individuals that hold membership in the AAW.

The biggest advantage is our chapter insurance policy is made available to us at a lower price with better benefits than a comparable policy that can be procured through the local marketplace.

Another advantage is the scholarship that is available for AAW members who are part of a local chapter – chapter membership is required for the nominee to be eligible.

The AAW is generous with resources they make available for the chapter website – videos and how-to sheets enrich the content of MAWt’s website.

For individual AAW members, a great publication, The American Woodturner, appears in the mailbox six times a year. AAW members also receive periodic emails that provide guidance and opportunities for all skill levels.

All the articles from The American Woodturner and other resources from AAW are made available to members on the national website. Recently the search engine was upgraded and made easier to use.

AAW makes a list of professional demonstrators available – this makes it much easier for the chapter to provide quality demonstrations to its membership.
