Hi fellow MAWT members,
We had an excellent demonstration by Trent Bosch this past Monday evening. Trent is a professional woodturner and demonstrator who really knows his craft. He expertly and quickly turned a hollow vessel and showed numerous techniques to embellish the surface, ranging from carving, sanding, burning, dyeing and using gilders wax. If you missed the live demo, you can view it online through Trent’s website. Jerry Anson will be sending link information shortly.
MAWT is proudly affiliated with three community projects:
- First is Turn for Troops penturning. Coordinated by members Dave Drickhamer and Carl Brust, the club has turned over 1,000 pens this year. An outstanding achievement! You have until the end of the month to continue dropping off turned pens at Woodcraft.
- The club has also provided bowls for the Empty Bowls Milwaukee Project. I delivered 20 bowls last week to Colleen Vollard of Cream City Clay, who helps with Empty Bowls. An additional 10 were dropped off by Carl earlier this week. A big thank you to all members who turned bowls for this great effort. Perhaps due to the confusing Covid19 year, we were down a lot from the 90 bowls of last year. The early October drop-off deadline has now passed so we look forward to more productive 2021.
- Finally, the club provides lidded bowls for Beads of Courage. I delivered 5 bowls to Kim Mayer at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin last week. Kim was very thankful for the donation and they will be much appreciated by kids undergoing medical care at the hospital. I deliver BOC vessels on an irregular basis, so continue to turn them and drop them off at Woodcraft. If anyone needs BOC name cards and beads, please let me know and I will mail them out to you.
Hope everybody stays healthy and safe – and keep turning,
Ron Zdroik
