Board News
The board was made aware of an opportunity for MAWT to promote the club and demonstrate turning at two events. They are Germanfest and Folk Fair. One or both of these events could replace our outreach that had been done via the Woodworker show which is no longer held. Let someone on the board know if you have interest in working on these events.
Meetings
The May meeting was our Extended Show and Tell. We had a wide variety of turned items brought in by many members. There were pieces with highly polished gloss finishes, some with wax and some with no finish. Some were embellished with paint. Most were wood, some were segmented and embellished, and some were acrylic. There were many bowls to be donated to the Beads of Courage program for children fighting cancer. There were even some turned birds. There was a nice variety of items from many MAWT members and I hope you found it inspirational for your next project.
We had a very lively wood auction this month with an increase in ticket sales after Jim Andresen donated several of his segmented and embellished pieces to the raffle table. Thanks to Jim and everyone that brought in wood for the raffle.
Luciano, one of our newer members, is interested in turning parts for a banjo. The musical instrument, not the lathe component. Let us know if you have information to share on turning parts for a banjo or even another musical instrument.
The June program is Tips and Tricks. Start thinking about what techniques or tools or bits of information you can share with the club.
On July 19 and 20, Sally Ault will be here in person from California to do a Saturday demo on dirty pour lids, then a Sunday hands on class on lidded bowls. There will be a fee for both. More information at the next meeting.
Stuart Batty sharpening video
Here is a link to the free sharpening video Stuart referred to during his IRD with us on April 7. He has a lot of high quality free instructional videos on turning and sharpening on his website.
