Leigh White demonstrated the turning of a Weeble bowl at our February meeting. Actually, she turned two of them. A Weeble bowl, Leigh’s name for them, is a bowl that’s been turned, usually with some kind of interesting top rim and/or bottom ornamentation, cut in half and then re-glued so that the bottom becomes the sides. This was an interesting and creative twist on bowl turning.
Board News
George Wawrzyniak completed the acquisition of Directors and Officers insurance for the board.
MAWT is in need of someone to volunteer to be the program director. This position entails recruiting and organizing monthly demonstrators for our meetings. The programs for 2025 are mostly set so work would be for 2026 programs. Contact Kevin if you have questions or are interested.
Harold Solberg brought forward an interesting opportunity for MAWT. The Hank Bardenhagen family is willing to donate a large collection of premium turning stock in the hopes that it will be used to benefit MAWT, children, and youth turning. The board will consider how to best accomplish that. Let us know if you have a space where this wood could be stored in a secure and protected location. It is currently in an attached garage.
Meetings
The March meeting will be Setting Up And Organizing Your Shop with Mark Trenier and Jay Guiliani.
There will be a Saturday field trip on March 29 with Mike Wendt demonstrating proper tree felling. MAWT members will have the option to take some of the felled Walnut tree home to turn. More detail will be provided closer to the event.
In April, we have Stuart Batty lined up to do an IRD (Interactive Remote Demo). The topic is cutting without torn grain on bowls and spindles. He will also demonstrate freehand platform grinding of his 40/40 grind.
AAW Symposium
AAW offers a $40 discount to each member of our chapter to attend the symposium with a full registration. A separate email with the code will go out to members only.
See you in March.
Kevin Seigworth,
