Community

The Milwaukee Area Woodturners support three causes through which our members give back to the community.

Turn for Troops

In conjunction with our monthly meeting host, Woodcraft of Milwaukee, MAWT sponsors Turn-for-Troops. Our members turn slimline pens that are distributed worldwide to deployed US Military personnel and to those in rehabilitation centers. This activity usually culminates in November near Veterans Day.

Beads of Courage

Beads of Courage provides encouragement for children and teens who are undergoing medical treatment. Patients are given beads for each time they go through a procedure. We turn lidded bowls and boxes in which these patients can keep their beads. Click on the link for more information.

Empty Bowls

Milwaukee Empty Bowls fights hunger in the greater Milwaukee area. Our members turn and donate bowls that are available for purchase at their annual fundraiser, usually held in October. The money that is raised is distributed to a number of organizations that fight hunger in Milwaukee. Click on the link for more information. For 2022, MAWT members contributed about 80 wooden bowls to this effort.
